Best way to steal a car? (fiction)

I'm writing a novel where the protagonist has to steal a car which cannot be traced.

What is the best way?

Sir I cannot counsel you on committing the crime of Grand Theft Auto.

1-Pull up with a metal trailer. Defeats lojac.
2-Pull car into trailer with winch. Defeats park.
3-Drive car to chop shop. Defeats tracking.
4-Enjoy illicit profits as a god amongst men.

Steal it from long term storage in an airport, those guys running the car parks are useless and the cars are usually parked for a couple of weeks during which no one knows it is stolen.

Alternatively, do as someone once told me.  They used to buy stolen cars out of state and drive them (70s when it was easier to get away with).  Once they parked the car and it was stolen - so their stolen car was stolen, he always joked the the second thief probably got arrested for it.  Ironic as it didn't technically steal the car.
