I am running for POTUS in 2016. I'm saving up, and gathering party faithful already. The name's Charm Witherspoon - I am US United Today. I believe in the smallest government possible, while still avoiding corporate fascism or lawlessness. I believe the only welfare needed is the stuff that levels the starting ground, giving everybody the opportunity to show their potential and earn wealth through contributing. Health care and public transport/use of infrastructure will all be free to all. Profit-based competitors will be allowed of course, but the free services will all be too the highest possible standards, sans-luxuries.
Education (not including college) is free for all. The range of scholarships for college will increase in scope and generosity dramatically, while adequate government funding with all oversight provided by a student-elected, transparent and independent committee within the college should see for-profit scam universities decrease in popularity. Schools will also be regulated by a transparent committee within the school who is answerable to the parents.
The government will transform from a bloated, clumsy interferer, hopelessly compromised by maintaining the wealth of donors into a maintainer of the basic fundamentals of society that are needed for everybody to have the chance at more. The only regulation on business is environmental protection and limits on marketing. Income tax will be abolished, and the federal bureaucracy massively cut back. Taxes on services and imports/exports will be flat and they and a 60% tax on inheritance will be used to fund the free services above, as well as the military. States will set their own taxes to fund secondary resources like police and firemen. You are free to move from state to state, with each allowed to make its own laws, based on the constitution.
The military will be scaled back, with focus shifting to defending domestic interests only and a mandatory 18 month military training for all males between 18-23. The legalization of weapon possession will increase in scope. The fact you are responsible for the welfare of your country is expressed, leading to a more harmonious society in general.
