hello /lounge/. some of you might be acquainted with this. I write my own BBS software called Tablecat. The reason that I'm posting here is because I am writing a new iteration and I want your opinion on it.

Some backstory: tablcat bbs started as a project to develop an efficient and minimalistic bbs software. At first, it was a 0ch clone, but after receiving input from /lounge/ it gradually turned into a shiichan clone. However, there are some very obvious differences. For example, it does not have an email field, instead there is a sage checkbox. Also, there is a preview button. The subback page itself is modeled after 2ch.

So basically, since I'm currently working on it, do you have any comments or suggestions? The preview feature technically is not a bare essential, so I was thinking of removing it.

Also, the preview button is a compiler as you say.

The reason I added preview function was because the one of the reasons people don't like BBCode is because the nature of open & close tags makes it easy to create malformed markup. The preview function hopes to alleviate this problem by allowing users to check that their BBCode markup is well formed. To safeguard against this problem, I have also added a feature that prevents a user from posting if their post contains malformed markup. That way, you will never look like an idiot who can't use BBCode!

However, the preview function is not just a compiler. It also shows the posts you are quoting. For example, if you're replying to >>1, then when you hit the preview button, it will show the first post in addition to yours. That way, you don't have to go back and forth or between tabs to see the post that you are replying to. It's mostly a matter of convenience to the user.

As you can see, these features are not strictly necessary, thus, not the bare minimum.

Also, here's a small test of the BBS without preview button. Instead, it has a post verification just like 0ch and 2ch
