Politics 101, bring me up to speed.

I'm absolutely clueless when it comes to Politics but I've noticed that a few people on lounge actually know what they're talking about while others are simply trolling their ass off.
I've tried Google but I don't know where to start.

So I was hoping my fellow loungers could help me out.
