Using sage properly

Name: Anonymous 2011-02-01 13:25

You are now aware that the majority of world4ch users are from an image board background and don't use sage properly.

You are presently unaware that there is no way to use sage improperly; it only seems that way because you are autistic.

You are now aware that there are certain unwritten rules people are supposed to follow when posting, the usage of sage in correct context is part of those.

So because there are more imageboard users than textboard users, their use of sage is correct and ours is not? I think you've got it backwards, buddy.

The debate on the use of sage is similar to those who read the US Constitution with modern definitions and don't have its historical context in mind, and those that do. The discourse on ``sage'' can easily degenerate into endless debates of contention.

Yes. It's the Argumentum Ad Populum or Appeal to the People fallacy. Because imageboard users comprise the majority of users in the realm of 4chan/world4ch, and their use of sage is the most commonly known and understood, means that it is the correct way. This argument is fallacious, in that its historical context is not considered, and that what's also not considered is the use of the sage function and the idea of how it is used has been perverted over time.

Not to mention saging would be next to useless on the imageboards.

Depends on how populated the particular board is. It's probably still effective on a board like /3/ or /n/, but completely useless as a function on /b/. Probably one of the best reasons why to split the board.
