Europe is filled with the poor, homeless and socialism. Which is why there are so many nanny states and so much censorship.

Finland has arguably less censorship historically and in modern times than the United States does, and it has the strongest welfare and social safety net system out of most, if not all the member states in the EU. Your argument is a tab bit flawed there, chief.

welfare and social safety net system
Socialism.

And Europe has heavy censorship, look at Germany and England for example.

Socialism
It's not really socialism if the capitalist mode of production is still in place and the private ownership of capital and private property rights are respected. Mixed economy/third way =/= socialism.
And Europe has heavy censorship, look at Germany and England for example.
the UK and Germany have stronger ties with the US than most of the other European countries, and that censorship is being pushed by conservative politicians in both the UK and US, Germany is also affected by this but to a lesser degree than the other two.

Censorship nowadays is absolutely pathetic anyway, as there will be ways around it.

No, that was some dude from Holland.

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-03 13:30

It was a Dutch artist from Holland who made some offensive art about Mohammad being a pedophile (Jesus too), and got into some legal trouble, but he's more in danger with Muslim extremist groups than the courts.

Greet Wilders is just some douche lolbertarian that made equally douchey anti-Islam films.

A slap on the wrist and a simple fine doesn't count as censorship (not that I agree with it though).

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-03 13:42

What type of socialism are we talking about?  Municipal?  Democratic?  Marxist?

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-03 13:48

What? The fine was bullshit, that is clear, however what he wrote has not been suppressed and has been freely distributed. It has been used for political ends, which I do disagree with. As I said in >>14 a mixed economy is not socialism. It would appear that you have been brainwashed by US Tea Party propaganda, distributed to low tech, anti-intellectual middle class goons and louts.

1. Fining people for voicing their harmless opinions is most definitely censorship.
Noun

censorship (countable and uncountable; plural censorships)

   1. The use of state or group power to control freedom of expression, such as passing laws to prevent media from being published or propagated.

It's not censorship, but the fine is fucking sneaky and bullshit though.
2. As I said, I am Dutch and thus living in a country that hands its citizen's wealth over to (often foreign) parasites through socialist policies.
The problem is asshole bankers selling out nations' wealth. This is happening all over the world, regardless of the respective economic system put in place.

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-03 14:08

Europe is raising the retirement age

Greece is imploding

cities all over the US are declaring bankruptcy

signs of socialism's collapse is everywhere

But u libruls can continue to live in your la-la land alternate reality

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-03 15:32

It's clearly censorship according to the definition you just posted.
The fine didn't prevent the posting from being propagated. That was the definition.

Name: Anonymous 2011-01-03 15:43

>>28
It was unsuccesful in this case
This is true.
but how many people have been discouraged from voicing their opinion because they don't want to be fined hundreds of euro's?
A good point.
