I heard from /b/ that there was a hidden text field with the words IGNORE THIS OKAY next to them. What does this do and why should it be ignored?

You can see it in Firefox if you go View > Page Style > No Style. And Opera if you go View > Style > User Mode. If it's there for spambots or originally there for that reason, it obviously doesn't work (anymore), since some boards on here are swamped with spam.
