Can you believe he said that in  a private phone conversation?!

OUTRAGEOUS!

How dare anyone say words! This man should be ostracized shunned and burned at the stake! Saying unapproved words is worse than theft, murder, rape, genocide etc. the so called "victims" had it coming; but ZOMG he said NIGGER!!!

Unforgivable!

Next time he should kill someone while driving drunk! That's a thoughtcrime, nothing major. But saying nigger when you yourself are not an "N Word" is the worst. Burn the witch!

What I don't get is why it matters.  The guy was fighting with his wife, and actually if you listen to the tape it sounds like he's saying that she desrves to be raped because she dresses like a hooker (paraphrased obviously). But there's nothing magical about the word nigger itself.  And actually, to me, saying that a woman -- especially the mother of your kids -- desreves to get gang-raped is much much worse than saying nigger. 

But even then, these are mere words said by someone you don't know to someone else you don't know.  It's "news" because he's an entertainer and therefore we pretend we know him.  Who fickin' cares.  If Gibson was someone who made policy, or was a cop or something, his opinion on rape and niggers would mean something.  Or if he was a reporter, or anything of substance.  He's not -- he's a glorified dancing bear, and the second people are no longer amused by this particular dancing bear, he's done even as the butt of a joke. 

Entertainers are like Tinkerbell, the second you stop believing and clapping your hands, they fade away.
