am I too liberal?

too much of a pacafist? I find it hard to be mean with even someone who wants to kick the shit out of my friend. I just hold them back and always try to reason with them. Should I be kicking the fuck out of them? or would that make my friend seem like less of a man for not fighting his own battles? lol I think too much.
