When I was younger, I was all for the death penalty. I was of the mind that "if you do not commit crime, why would you be afraid? Lets get rid of the scum who commit murders and violent crime. They do not deserve to live. People like that do not belong in society anyway". Then as I got older, I thought "I do not want my taxes paying to feed these people when they have gone and killed muliple people and ruined the lives of the victims' friends and families. Violent murderers should be killed as they do not contribute anything to society and cause detriment to everyone else living in it".
Later I started to look at some reasons for opposing capital punishment. These include such things as
no one should be able to decide whether a person should be commited to death. It is a barabric process and we as a civilization are beyond that now
capital punishment has been proven not to reduce crime rates
The most important one though I think is
sometimes innocent people are sentenced to death
I am still in two minds about this. I know that a lot of younger immature minds will automatically think "yeah man, kill all the murders and rapists. No loss there". But there are still some arguments for it. I still think that crime syndicate leaders and such should be put to death. Fuck that. Any violent crime should be put to death as well. Prisons cost money and in some places they are full. Why should taxes be paid to keep these guys fed? Unless prison is not what most people think it is and is actually quite fucking shitty.
I know some will even condone an unusual and violent death sentence as well. Such as a long and painful death. Some might argue the criminals should die in a similar fashion to their victims.
