What's important is what happened further up the chain of command. Were the non embedded journalists being targeted by the US military? Here's a piece of the puzzle. This is an example, there was a hotel were the non embedded journalists stayed that was shelled. It seems to be common practice by the Israelis to kill protesters and journalists.
