AI, though standing for Artifical Intelligence, doesn't actually mean what the term implies. I.e., it is a misnomer. When scientists talk of AI, they don't mean producing an actual aware being. The term should have been VI or virtual intelligence, as far as what most people think of when they hear the term AI. That is, a system that produces output as though by a being with understanding, irrespective of any implied consciousness. Much software has already been written toward this idea, so AI -as the term is used in the business- has been around for a while.
What you are imagining is the production of an actual thinking being, which is not viable through software, or even hardware with its present forms.
