What if extramaritals were visiting Earth

This is just a thought exercise.  I was thinking, if extramaritals were visiting Earth, is there any reasonable way to go about presenting that information to the public?

I really can't think of any way of doing it that wouldn't result in significant disruption across all modern cultures.

I'm not really sure how the religions of the world would deal with something that's entirely out-of-context like that.  Human religions only concern the disposition of humans, and many suppose we're somehow modelled after a god.  How they would deal with the existence of an intelligent species unlike humans is an open question.

I think district 9 would happen.
