odd USA media thing regarding aud/vid

I have noticed that USA writers or bad joke writers mock something called an audio/visual club that you supposedly had in the US high schools.  How very odd.  You are so rich and fortunate to have schools that afford expensive and fun equipment, and you even had clubs so that students to touch the machines?  And then you mock such students in your culture?  Very strange.  If I was sitting in the control room while a jerk made an audio/video joke on camera, I'd run out and punch his face "fuck you, this is my living, big shot asshole".
