Bullshit.  It's a tax.  Your diplomats don't pay our taxes here, so to expect us to pay yours there is hypocritical.  Shoe on the other foot my ass.  You find me an example of a British diplomat who's paying American taxes, particularly a local tax, and I'll change my tune.
We even issue sales tax exemption cards to diplomats.
