London controlled the trade of all her colonies up until WW2, when Roosevelt forced Churchill to give America access to trade with the British Empire in return for aid.
London used to control the trade of her American colonies and didn't alone America to trade with anybody except Britain.
And like I said, Britain used to do this with the rest of her colonies until WW2.
