First you get some vacuum tubes to produce an ocillation. Then you modulate the amplitude of the ocillation. Pretty good.

I have both SS and tubed amps, each has their strengths and weaknesses. SS is for cranking it, tube is for enjoying the vocals. But that's just speaking generally, judging a system without listening first is the sign of a "grade A moron."
