I can't remember, was /n/ News and Politics, or just news?
It was just simply news, but later became heavy in politics during the run up to the U.S. 2008 election.
And I've never really stayed on /r9k/ long enough to find out whether there's anything good about it. It felt like I was reading livejournal or something like that
I agree, /r9k/ is pretty terrible, but once in a while you come across the occasional thread on politics, history, peak oil, or if you're really lucky, something really unusual. But, of course any board is like that.
