Mexican is not a race.

"Mexican" isn't an ethnicity, just like "American" is not. Both of these terms describe a person's nationality, not where their ancestors are from. In the case of Mexicans there is a possibility that what most mean by "Mexican" is actually mestizo which makes up 60% of the population. Mestizo is someone with mixed Spanish and Amerindian ancestry (e.g. Mayan, Nahuatl, and Zapotec). But there are pure Amerindian Mexicans who make up 30% of the population, white Mexicans or criollos who make up 9%, and smaller minorities of black Mexicans, zambos, mulatos, and even Asian Mexicans.

I do realize that most Mexicans see themselves as one distinct group, but that is not scientific.
