I have a felony in the US for which I served no active prison time, only an 18-month suspended sentence (probation). My probation term has been done and over with for many years now. Japan doesn't let people enter who have been "sentenced to imprisonment for one year or more." The question is this: does a suspended sentence with no prison time served count as "imprisonment?" Also, does it matter that what I was convicted of is actually not a crime in Japan, only in America? If no one knows, how do I find out? I'd hate to never be able to live in Japan just because of some bullshit from my past that I've long since put behind me.
