the Scots have much to answer for

Yes, the Scots are a great people and we are bettered by their being.  But they have much to answer for.  Specifically, bagpipes and golf.

I find both to be moderately pleasant, not great mind you, but nothing rage about either. Plus, guys being able to wear skirts is somewhat appealing, at least in summertime.
