Local Starbucks threatened by armed man

Starbuck’s employees at the Texas 71 location just off Bee Caves Road were shocked when an armed man in his early 20s entered their store on Sunday making threats and ordering the store to be cleared.
According to Bee Cave Police Chief Rusty Pancoast, the quick-thinking actions of the store's staff helped resolve the issue with no injuries.
"A young man entered the store at about 6 p.m.," Pancoast said. "He displayed a gun to the clerk on duty and told him to have the customers leave, lock the door and call police."
Employees did just that, Pancoast said.
"The man then got on his cell phone and began talking," Pancoast said. “The two employees on duty took that opportunity to leave the building through the back door, which left the man by himself."
Pancoast said the man then put his gun down while talking on his cell phone, raising his other arm in surrender when police arrived.
"Police quickly took the man into custody without incident," Pancoast said. “He apparently had been having trouble with an ex-girlfriend and his job. Apparently he had been talking to the ex-girlfriend on the phone, who convinced him to give himself up.”
Bee Cave police then contacted the mental health unit from Travis County, which took the suspect, Kyle Brecklin, into custody.
"We are referring paperwork to the Travis County District Attorney’s office on a possible charge of aggravated assault," Pancoast said. "We are letting them decide if charges should be filed, since the man was taken into custody by mental health officials. I am not certain if he will ultimately be prosecuted or not."
