Actually I use sage when the thread is up top as well. Sometimes some guy could be posting a thread that is below the top one and bumped it all the way to the top and it stays like that for only a fraction of a second before the thread I was posting in gets bumped back up on top and the thread he posted in is just below that one.
I try to use sage in a polite manner like most sites outside of 4chan do. (And I'm not talking about all those shitty Kusaba based insta-4chan clone sites.)
