Seriously, it's really distracting.  I saw a clip and thought it was going to be some gay twink porn.

Eh, it's 'cause he's suppose to play as a younger version of James T. Kirk. If it was an older actor portraying him (being younger than Shatner of course) then it probably would not look as 'gay'.
