Every once in awhile, those of us who watch the big picture and report to you that government is planning something REALLY bad, are vindicated. Such is the case right now.

In October, 2007, the sub-prime mortgage crisis hit. Millions of illegal aliens and others who had lied about their ability to repay loans had defaulted and those defaults were taking out the banks.

Credit dried up, a number of banks failed. The economy began to tank and companies started taking losses and laying off workers. There were storm clouds on the financial horizon and everyone knew it.

What few considered was that our government is already saddled with so much debt they cannot hope to afford another Great Depression. They don't have the funds to pay unemployment, welfare, food stamps, free medical care through medicaid and and they have zero chance of borrowing the money to provide it. So, the decision has been made to "cull the herd."

They have no choice but to kill off a whole slew of "useless eaters," most of whom live in our major cities. They know that unless they kill them off, there will be so much social chaos that the government will fall or be overthrown and they definitely don't want that to happen.

This would actually concern me if it weren't for the casualties of the swine flu all occuring in Mexico, probably due to pnemonia mixed with poverty. It's the freaking regular flu, people! Regular flu and Mexico.

...so why is the WHO raising the threat level to 5 out of 6?

First of all the scale is a little weird: It was set to 3 and has been on this normal level since it's creation in 2005! What 1 and 2 is, is probably a setting they go to after WHO has eradicated all earths deceases. I just see it as a scare tactic, to raise money.

So again, why are they raising the level over a regular flu? Because this flu is so different from the other flus that our immune system will have a hard time adapting to it. (Hard, not impossible, as judging from the complete lack of deaths in countries with actual hospitals (not counting the newborn mexican baby who visited Texas and happened to die over there).) It's not so different that two regular flu medicines is effective against it though, or that hospitals (in most informed countries) would even bother to admit you unless the flu has actually gotten into the pnemonia stage. If you have the flu, and you get pnemonia, what do you do? You take medicine for it. There's so difference between the severity of this flu and any other flu.

...so I laugh. I laugh at the United Nations, World Health Organization and various countries holding emergency meetings over this.

While you're laughing smugly, consider the possibility that they are using this as an opportunity to educate the public, and develop plans, systems, and infrastructure for responding to a pathogen with a higher mortality rate.  Not to mention earnestly trying to save some lives with this one.

How would mobilizing the entire globe instead of providing basic hospital care for Mexico, translate to saving lives?

We'll just have to relax and swim in our collective failure. Not just the western hemisphere and the United States, but the whole planet.
