To "testify" was based on men going before the Roman court and guaranteeing a statement by swearing on their testicles.

This is why, in a Roman court of law, it was required to have two women to equal the testimony of one man.  Since each woman is only born with one testicle, the only way to guarantee the testimony was by pairing them together.
