A chemical reaction like a fire converts high energy chemicals into low energy ones. Thus, water is the result of burning hydrogen and oxygen. You don't see the water after a fire because it's hot and turns it into steam. But if you cut the water in half, separating the hydrogen and oxygen, then it will burst into flames. This is hard to do because water is slippery and difficult to cut.
