What is growing in my yard?

Cleaning out some over growth in my backyard I found a strange fruit bearing plant. It has no leaves and its pretty much just all thorns but it has these golfball size green fruits with a rough leathery skin and they eventually turn yellow/orange.

I don't think its a Lemon tree, Lime Tree or Orange as those all have leaves, so what is this thing?

sounds like walnuts, but I may be wrong, the thorns are confusing identification process. Perhaps something else.
