The study's authors suggest that obesity isn't just spreading; rather, it may be contagious between people, like a common cold.

No, this sort of thing is cultural.  Americans are becoming cultural fatasses.  They can change that anytime they want to, but they don't.  Thankfully, the coming Depression will create the conditions of hunger and extra manual labor that will start to whittle down the fatfucked American waistline.
