I used to work for MTV Networks and the contests with online polls were mostly worded in the fine print as "voter-influenced" which meant they reserved the right to say "To hell with who actually got the most votes, the producers get to decide anyway."
Well, I just mean that if they don't think the actual winner is good for TV or whatever, they'll just manually upvote a runner-up.
