Way back when humans were just one step ahead of apes, humans were and still are pack animals. We need more humans around us and we need a sex partner to reproduce ourselves. When a human was forcibly removed from the pack for whatever reason, his very life was in danger. He cannot survive alone in the harsh wilderness. To let the body know this he feels pain albeit his body is in good condition. This same pain do you feel when your beloved wife tells you she doesn't love you anymore.
