Roommate and television

Why does my roommate do the following? 

We will be watching tv and he will be on the couch and i'll be in the recliner to his right.  About 6 feet separates us.  Something comical will happen on tv and he will look at me while laughing.  This happens about half the time a comical event occurs.  Last night while watching a movie, I recorded how many times he did it in a 20 minute span.  He looked at me 4 times. 

This kinda makes me uncomfortable and is very annoying especially when I'll be sitting on my laptop doing something school related.

it means he's seen it before, and he wants to see you going through the same thing he did watching it the first time around. I do the same thing. It's nothing gay, if that's what you're getting at. He's just looking for social connection through the common place of media.
