If you are an Atheist, and not a Nihilist, then you have not fully thought about your world view.
So you've finally taken a step into the world of the rational. You no longer believe in magical invisible friends, and you finally feel comfortable in calling yourself an Atheist. Congratulations, you're almost home.
In a universe where no god-being exists, then it logically follows that there can be no objective values/morality/purposes. Each person can, of course, have values/morality/purposes, but these are not objective. They are subjective. All value judgements are subjective to the individual making them. This is Nihilism.
As an atheist, it is time to stop being a pussy about it, and accept Nihilism. Just like Atheism, Nihilism has been given a bad name by the god-botherers. Do not let this deter you. Accept the logical conclusions of a godless universe.
