For anyone wondering what religion I believe in, I believe that most of the major religions are true, some having more truth than others and that they are all compatible with each other. I believe in the Abrahamic religions; Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. I also believe some of the religions of India and East Asia are true. I believe only one God who I pray to and submit myself to everyday. I believe that the Holy Ghost, Dharma (धर्म), and Tao (道) all represent the same thing which is the path of righteousness.
Some religions however have evil teachings such as Satanism, Wicca, Juggalo, and others. They teach materialism and hedonism, they approve of lust and greed, and they allow you to do whatever you want without any accountibility or fear of punishment. Even though I said I believe most of the religions of the world have good teachings, most of their followers do not follow their teachings and only pretend to.

In other words, you look at all the good each different religion has to offer and try hard to only look at that.
Unfortunately overlooking the flaws means you aren't really being realistic or logical about it. Many religions claim that with no exceptions whatsoever, theirs is the correct one, and that their interpretation is absolutely correct. And, failing that they say "our god is a mystery, so it doesn't matter if we get it wrong sometimes, he backs us anyways."
Everyone misses out on the real way to look at it. It seems you are doing the same thing too, being blind to some aspects of it because it's [i]easier[i/] to do so.
Taking the easy route is rarely the correct one. Most religions fail on a basic level because they claim a "god" is either powerful, or loving. Neither of which can be demonstrated today, so they all end up the same, fairy tales that have no actual meaning for us. No one can demand acceptance without being able to prove they are worthy.
So, if you can prove in any way how a "god" has acted for mankind, then do so. Otherwise, I'm sorry. A thinking person cannot just blindly believe what he is told and turn away from common sense.

What religion is supposed to do is to spiritually enlighten the supplicant's life.
Some religions purport good vs evil and that in order to be a better person on the right path, one has to do good and fight evil.
Most major religions attempt to bring each person to a spiritual plateau via various mechanisms. Such as sacrifice, fasting and whatnot.
What happens with most major religions is that ultimately, the body of worshipers end up doing rote mechanics in an orderly manner in order to appease whatever deity or requirement that is called for to be enlightened.
On the other hand, creating one's own religion usually begins with much fervor and ends up with apathy.
If you wish to find spiritual enlightenment, you must find the belief system that works for you and put everything you can into it.
As for me, I believe I'll have another beer.

>>in order to be a better person on the right path, one has to do good and fight evil.
Problem with that is every definition of "evil" is relative to the current times. Christians pretend that terrorists killing people for their religion is "evil" and yet they did the same thing in the Crusades. And God/Allah/every other deity blesses their guns, while explicitly stating that killing is wrong. Something is amiss.
>>sacrifice, fasting and whatnot.
Can be good, they teach people discipline. The military also does that too. Just goes to show ya religion is only one form of strict life-management. These ideas are not so lofty as some might claim.
>>end up doing rote mechanics in an orderly manner in order to appease whatever deity or requirement that is called for to be enlightened.
Sadly "HEIL HITLER!!" comes to mind as well. Blind obedience, salute the flag/ruler, sing your anthem, and "die for one's country/god" are much the same. I'm better than you, lowly dog. Bow down before me and you will become worthy of being in my presence. If you become my willing slave you shall attain something "great" as my "servant."

Now this is something Jesus approves of.

We have these manifestations of “Heaven” and “Hell” and personifications of “good” and “evil” because basically, humans are loath to accept responsibility for their actions. - reasoned.org

tl;dr version: All religions have something good about them, so I just pick and choose the bits I like.
The easy route? Lol. The easy route is quite the opposite of what the op is doing. The easy route is choosing one religion and saying "every else is going to Hell". The easy route is saying "I can do whatever I want in life and I go to Heaven no matter what because I accept Jesus".
Actually the "bits" I chose I don't like at all but I chose them because they're true.

Picking the good stuff out of religions is actually what the Japanese do, they don't view it as a statement of belief. This pragmatic view of religions is very cool in my book as you can accept pretty much any religion this way without chopping each others' head off.
I agree with taking the good bits out of religions to create your own beliefs, but I don't agree with excluding those religions which you deem evil.
Hedonistic religions have their uses as much as any other. If it weren't for lust and greed we would not procreate, and there would be no drive to achieve more. I find it useful to draw on some of their teachings and balance it with Eastern minimalism and Abrahamic faith.
If you take on God's responsibility to judge you better be ready to also accept the responsibilities of forgiveness and understanding. Most find this to be very difficult.

o rly? I like screwing chicks as much as you do. Unless you're gay I mean.
I agree on the drive to achieve more though. I mean, what else could motivate us to kill each other for oil and develop nuclear weapons?

Well....actually as a I'm a chick myself, I like screwing both. Pretty sure a love of fucking falls under the lust category. Which was my point.
As far as achieving more it obviously has a light and dark side. If it weren't for greed we wouldn't be as technologically advanced as we are. Greed inhibits and advances our culture, once again illustrating the need for balance. I never said it was all good, just not all bad.
Why the fuck don't bisexual girls kiss/make out/fuck other girls more in presence of guys?

Greed only does bad though. We wouldn't go too far if we weren't greedy. Sane, rational, reasonable people never take more than they need and can live peaceful, happy lives. And I've never seen lust be a good thing.

I believe we're born with natural greed and lust. I also believe that it's better to gain control over these aspects of ourselves rather than suppress them completely.

Lust in its place, and greed also in its place. Hmm. Sounds interesting. Suppression rarely works because of people being so easily influenced though. No one bothers to stick to their morals when Oh look! Flashing lights and purty colors! Or, the more modern version: drugs, sex and alcohol! Hurray!

True. Which is why many people need organized religions. Moral support group. I believe it was already mentioned that belonging to such a group is the easy route. Going solo is much more difficult, and the fact of the matter is people are lazy.
