What Plato said was that most people don't view the real world.
The world is a cave with people inside with a fire in the middle.
The real world is in the shape of fire. The fire flickers and casts shadows on the cave walls that we blindfolded people recognize as reality. He meant that the only ones capable of seeing the "real"  reality - the fire - were the philosophers.
