How do I meet girls on Gaia?

I always hear about people meeting young girls on places like Gaia and such? Anyone have experience with how to go about this or might know of better places to go? I just want to talk.

I thought I met a cool gal on there once, but she turned out to be a he, and I tried to continue to like him anyway but the more I talked to him the more he pissed me off.

So, watch out for those traps.
