Confidence is a big deal. Look at it this way: If people can tell that you think you have a crap personality, crap looks, crap life...WHY would they want to be involved with you? So they can go down with the ship? Would YOU want to be involved with you? You are the best judge of your own personality and qualities, and if what you project is that you are not worth the time of day, people will pick up on your body language and they will believe you. Body language tells you more about a person you just met than ANYTHING else, so if your body language tells them that you feel like you are a crap person, they are going to believe what you "say". The great thing about this is that body language is something you can control, even if you don't feel confident inside. You only have a certain amount of time to show a stranger what your positive attributes are. You need to put your best foot forward...every time you meet someone it is like a job interview. What do you do when you go on a job interview? Do you hang your head, act embarrassed and shy and have an "aw shucks" attitude? No! You talk about your strengths, downplay your weaknesses, and show them why you deserve the job! On an interview, if you don't have a great deal of confidence, you fake it! You make eye contact, have a firm handshake and call the person by name (everyone loves to hear their name repeated, it's a fact - even a waitress who is just wearing a nametag!). Ask them questions about themselves if they (or you) have nothing to say. People LOVE to talk about themselves, not because of narcissism, but because everyone is nervous meeting someone for the first time and they want to talk about something they are familiar with, something they know about. Fake it 'till you make it!
