I linked hopped to an article about Stoicism, which brought me to a description of what is called natural law. That concept has been invoked when nominees to the US Supreme Court have been considered for approval.
What I have read can be summed up in these dictionary definitions:
natural law: a set of principles based principally upon certain natural rights
natural right: a right conferred upon man by natural law
That is to say, ideas that employ these concepts are full of shit. They might as well be elves and fairies in the forest. Not surprisingly, the ideas are appealing to religious or other magical thinkers.
