Venting is good. Like you said, it kinda fucks you up if you keep it all in.
You can end up as one of 3 types of men when you grow up.
1. The angry son of a bitch wife beater who kept it all in but can easily take it out on her because "she loves you." Nobody else would put up with your anger issues except her.
2. The repressed, "I have to be good to my wife because I 'love' her. A 'loving'(and/or Christian/other religious) husband can't show her that he's angry or upset or worse, 'hurt.' He must be stronger than that. Otherwise he is not a man." You know, the professional types. Usually they become job manwhores and think that money solves all problems and so wonders why his wife leaves him.
3. The logical and rational man who understands things for what they are, and has learned how to first express his dissatisfaction in a calm and dignified way to those involved, and begins discussions in order to find a reasonable solution. He then takes decisive action to improve his own life or the lives of those around him. This man isn't arrogant enough to believe that what his wife/girlfriends says is unrelated to his own happiness.
