On the subject of life and death

I've been thinking lately about death. I've grown into a state of depression over the subject.

Before we were born into life, we did not have a concept of time because we did not have brains to acknowledge time. There wasn't complete darkness or anything. As we grow older and develope our brains have now understood this and it's own consciousness.

Is this what it will be like after death?
No complete darkness, no heaven, no hell, no reincarnation, nothing.
We will die and our brains will stop working and that will be the end of it.

It's an incredibly scary thought, but fear is just a primitive emotion in response to a human's environment to flee a situation for survival.

I just see no reason for going on.
Do I get a high paying job, so I can be happy? But happyness itself is just another emotion. When a human's environment and surroundings are suitable they take joy in these things and have a desire to keep them, much like loved ones.

So my sole purpose in life is to just pass on my genetic material to the next generation to form a more perfect species. I will die and there will be no concept of time. Life just seems so incredibly pointless and I have no desire to continue it.

>>1 Don't get yourself worked up about it. I don't think I was ever afraid of death. I don't remember being scared when I was young, as most kids aren't. But when I got older, no fear of it really developed. I suppose I'm lucky to be in such a state of peace about the whole thing.
I think the best thing to do is just let it be. NOBODY knows what happens after death, and worrying yourself over it will only get you closer to it. Just forget about it if it's really getting to you, give yourself a break. Just enjoy your life while you're around, and whatever happens, happens. Simple as that.
There's nothing you can do about it, so just try to relax about the whole thing. I guess it's one of those things that you just have to have faith in the fact that you'll be all right.
Think about it, why do people still follow these ancient religions. Yes, a lot of them have been forced upon children who've grown up with it as a way of life, but in this day and age people can pick and choose what to believe in, pretty much not matter which religion they come from in their background.
People choose to believe in certain things because people NEED something to believe in. Something to rely on when all else fails. Something to help them keep going without worrying themselves over all of the incredible, complicated and incomprehensible things that there are in this world. People go mad over thinking about these things, which is why most people have to just find something to believe in, and leave it at that. There's too much in life to think about, and we're all very small compared to everything around us. You have to let go of these sort of things, because it's only when you learn to, that you can really enjoy life.
It's like a magic trick; it's astounding, awe inspiring, and gives you a real sense of true magic. But when you know how it all works.. the magic dies, doesn't it? Like when you find out that Santa Claus doesn't really exist. Christmas can still be a wonderful and fun-filled time of year, but it's never quite like it was when you were little, and there was real magic in the world.
If you analyse things too much, you lose the magic and beauty of it all. Instead of looking at things philosophically, or scientifically, I recommend just taking things for what they are. Don't try to figure out what makes a sunset beautiful, just enjoy it while you can. You'll have a much greater life that way.
I'm not particularly religious, and I do have an interest in philosophy and science. And I've found that things are usually the best they can be when you don't know too much about them. They say ignorance is bliss, and I suppose, that's one of the truest things in this world. When you don't know how, you can call it magic, or even a miracle. And to be honest, I'd rather have a world of magic and miracles, full of the excitement that fills a child on Christmas morning, than a boring, empty world, where you know how and why, but by knowing that, it's no longer beautiful.
