I think the lust that animu fags have for the characters, while idealized, can easily be transferred to a real person. The real person may not match up fully to that idealized version but no real thing ever matches up to an ideal. Anime is like any other interest best enjoyed on a moderate level. People who like anime, moderately or not, may speak about it openly as long as noone becomes ill and dies as a result.
