Shaving isn't too bad, actually. It's not really like sandpaper, just a little rough as it grows back in. Still, I'd recommend not shaving ALL the way down to the skin, leave a little bit so you don't get the itchies as it regrows.
Or, trim it with scissors as cloose to the skin as you can, that will get it pretty good
