You're all reacting to hormones, chemicals, and neurons firing when genetically preprogrammed stimuli trigger certain nerves, organs and glands. Watch Animal Planet and look at how ludicrous some mating rituals are. A bird tries to puff up its red chest more than others, another bird tries to spread out its feathers, a mammal engages in dominant battles with other males by locking horns or butting heads (giraffe fights are the best). It's all silly bullshit that organisms are meant to THINK are important and meaningful, when actually they're just following typical behavior for their species.
