what about, like, this BBS-type system?  Like 2chan?  Just the text-based aspect.

This board style is superior because you dont have faggets talking about your name that you gave yourself on purpose to weed out the idiots who cant help but comment on it when theycant even stay focused on the topic at hand like gamefaqs what a faghole of a place.

A lot of people on gaia have multiple accounts since they care so much about their items to make mules.

I would say gaia only has about 1 or 2 Million actual users. almost everyone there has multiple mules, and then their site polls get about 300k votes each. =P

I've been thinking of setting up a site for anonymous text boards only, simplifying some aspects so that "normal" people would get them too. Take out all wap-faggotry and change sage to something intelligible and voila, you have a bunch of text boards that don't suck that much.

Some people like small forums because they have community where they feel like they know the other people. I wish world4ch was more active like /b/ was, because I like being able to refresh the page 10 seconds later and seeing people have already replied to my post.
