i actually go out quite often. i have a few friend whose company i appreciate and i sometimes get to meet new people through them. 99% of these people end up hating me (mostly because they think that i hate them, and that they therefore have to hate me back). i don't really care, i have enough friends and that's really all i need.

It's not enough to simply 'not care' about anything.  That's actually a misconception.
What you need to do is care about one thing (your hobby or job, whatever) so much that it appears to be more important to you than getting a girlfriend.  (women love men who are driven and passionate about something)
Then you need to take the attitude that your time is valuable, and that any women would be lucky if she could have enough of your time to even talk to you.  This makes you aloof, and whatever women say about that, they love it.  It makes them chase you, rather than you chasing them.  And they love it.

Well, you need to take a look at some other factors then.
How are your grooming habits?  Is your hair neat?  Are your finger nails clean?  Can you dress yourself well?(not fancy or classy, but not totally clueless; ie. brown belt with black shoes).  How's your breath?  Are you smoker?  Do you have good posture or do you slouch?  What's your situation with eye contact?  Are your eyes calm or nervous and darting?  Are you a confident guy?  How tall are you?  Can you make people feel relaxed around you?

And YES, you need to actually APPROACH WOMEN TO GET THEM.  You can't expect them to come to you from out of the blue.  What you need to do is talk with them without seeming like a needy little boy.  After a few laughs ask for a number, or just flat out leave and see if she asks for yours.
Whatever you do, you have to first establish SOME SORT of a connection or chemistry before a girl will gobble your cock.

Additionally, being aloof is fine, but you can be so damn reclusive that no one ever sees you.
