being asking out by a mother

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-18 22:33

dear /lounge/,

While taking the bus to college last semester a mother struck up conversation with me and then tried to hook me up with her daughter. She showed my her picture on her cellphone, and gave me her number. I tried to call her number, but it didn't connect so I started to imagine that the whole thing was a scam to rape a white boy or mug him or something.

What my question is; is whether it is normal for a mother to ask out guys for her daughter, and for her daughter to even consider these guys?

I was torn in half by this question, since the mother wanted me so badly to be her daughter's husband, and I believed that her daughter would hate me so much if I ever even spoke of her, much less spoke to her. It was certainly a horrible paradox, and seeing this woman's glaring face on the bus each morning did not help matters, and I soon found myself loathing her and her daughter's antics and placing me in such an uncomfortable position.

Now that it is over (at least I hope so), what do you guys think?

women, especially mothers, can be notorious matchmakers.  the fact that she decided to hook you up with her daughter after such a short period of time, however, implies that she's either very insane, very desperate for grandchildren, or very wants to rape and mug a poor white boy.

if insane, this implies that the daughter was raised with an insane mother so you have no idea what to expect.  probably safer to avoid such a blind date.

if desperate, this implies that the daughter is a recluse with little to no social skills, or very picky about what guys she goes with.  probably safer to avoid such a blind date.

if rape-mugger, this implies that she will both rape and mug you.  probably safer to avoid such a blind date.

if, however, the mother was someone who actually had the opportunity to know you for a reasonable length of time, it's probably safe to take her up on the offer.
