Just received an official 'please explain' from admin over my internet usage at work. They described my usage as 'excessive' - and had two pages of documentation, including pretty graphs showing all the sites I've been visiting over a month...
Top of the list was '4chan.org' (can't help but wonder if they are assuming it is some sort of xxx site).
Oh well... it was a good job while it lasted.
PS. They quote my 'excessive' internet usage as costing the institution $4.36 for the month.

Oops, I need to take caution, I browse 4chan during work too. Fortunately we only hawe a simple hardware router, which doesn't log internet usage. And I always clear my browser cache before leaving. :P

Agree. Must be pretty dying place if such sums are any issue.

You can't get fired for unintentionally wasting less than $5 a month. Did you quit because they wouldn't let you go on 4chan?

Yes that's true, but from the company's point of view if they allow one person to waste $5 monthly, others will probably think that they can do it too and if they have 1000 employees the sum is $5000 And what if they waste a lot more?

Just say you're sorry and that you won't do it again. Ride it out for now. My guess is that this is some sort of warning. Take notice and stop lurking the internet on the job!

Or it could be that while excessivly browsing 4chan he isnt doing his actual job which is the concern?

If you want to be a hacker, keep reading. If you want to be a cracker, go read the alt.2600 newsgroup and get ready to do five to ten in the slammer after finding out you aren't as smart as you think you are. And that's all I'm going to say about crackers.
