Lyrics were the worst thing to happen to music

If popular music sucked, then it wouldn't really be popular in the first place, would it? Logic people, logic. It simply doesn't appeal to everyone.

I refuse to acknowledge the existence of stupid people. When masses of stupid people like something, it simply cannot be seen as popular. Because these people aren't worthy of existing.

If they don't exist, nothing they like exists because it isn't worth existing.

laws of culture.
When you group people together in gropus greater than eleven individuals the average intelligence of each person drops at a rate exponentially relative to the number of people in the group.  therfore the larger the number of people together that think a particular type/style/artist/album/song is the shit, the more likely that it is simply shit itself.  There is good music of almost every variety, the problem is with modern pop is that there are too many people praising it in too many ways.  If you want to know what is good and stands the test of time as good music should.  Ten years from now listen to a classic station, most of the good ones will get played.

Why do people listen to eurobeat? Because they are tasteless waps

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-09 21:54

Why bother going deep into music when you're not a very musical person? All of those people who listen to nothing but mainstream have no idea what the lyrics mean and could never figure that out on their own.

You all ought to die, just because you don't listen to the same stuff as I listen to. Yeah, I ought to fucking kill you retards off and do the world(myself) a favor.

Yhe problem with music nowdays is that any halfwit can pull together a group of other idiots and make music, which half on America will praise as "local rock". The mediocre of these bands get their music made into CDs and sold. Anyone can do it. It used to be that if you didn't have serious talent, fuck you, you died of stavation on the street or couldn't get anyone together to play your crap because people who played music well were so much more uncommon. You had do be damn talented to get noticed.

Now, because everyone is making crap and everyone is loving it because it's 'trendy' or 'rebellious', people with talent stay the fuck away from music and put it to something else.

Thus, music has become utter, utter crap. Or at least the vast majority of it.

And yes, if you love current music, you are an idiot. Most things I'll admit are a matter of opinion, but some things aren't, and music is one of them. There is a reason why classical music has been around for hundreds and hundreds of years, while most popular modern songs are forgotten after a few months on the radio. Most music made in the past 10 years should be destroyed.

That said, I find probably a good one or two hundred songs made in the past fourty years very good and enjoyable, although practically nothing from the past 10 years. And even so, I would never say that these songs are as good music as the classical masterpieces.

Finally, found someone who agrees with me about MTV. My sister keeps telling me that "I should listen to this" instead of '80s music from which I grew up with. I will not conform to mainstream america's notion of "popular music" becuase most of it now days is talking into the mic and a beat machine with sound f/x of sex (sometimes) WTF is with that music?! My friend plays rap trying to impress me, and he alays does it when a good song is playing on the rock station. "But it's Eminem"

I think that the instrumental and overall musical skill in most popular music today is very very lacking. Popular musicians don't get popular because they are the best at the instrument. They get popular because tons and tons of musically illiterate fans like their image. And most popular musicians these days aren't popular for playing an instrument anyways, granted pop singers do have the ability to sing well, whatever style they choose to sing. But the singing of a single pop singer fails in comparison to the instrumental ingenuity of a well trained, incredibly talented, and amazingly collaborated progressive rock band.

What you need to realize is that not everyone can appreciate the musical genuis of some musicians. When you cater to the lowest common denominator it usually results in pop, for obvious reasons.
