Why are Americans such prudes?

Name: Anonymous 2006-06-08 1:32

I find it very interesting that it is very easy to see lots and lots of violence on the televison, but god forbid you see a pair of knockers.

In Europe it is the opposite. You are more likely to see sex on the tele than you are to see violence.

To me, showing sex makes much more sense. Every human being has sexual desires (and most act on them). And there is no law against having consensual sex with someone. However, there are many laws against murder, rape, assault.

So why is the United States so hell bent on keeping sex of the television?

Any thought? Opionions?

Well rape isn't consentual sex.

But your right, America definitely has lots of violence on TV, but we didn't ban sex on TV. You just need to buy it from the cable/satellite company. A lot of stations have nudity on them.

they don't want to see normal-sized tits because they're all pedophiles

We masturbate to violence instead of sex

The United States is a country based on the puritans.  Every major Christian sect in the United States today is entirely against sexual conduct outside of marriage and quite a few even today are against sexual conduct that is not intended to produce a child.  Bottom line:  Christians are against sex, but not violence.  The puritans burnt their enemies at the stake, but didn't touch their wives unless they wanted another kid.

United States history.  Based in the church.  Church based on "The Puritans."

Not too far from the truth.  I become bored without a dose of violence in my media habbits.

But anyway, unfortuately, in American culture sex has always been a taboo subject.  Certainly things are getting more relaxed as of late, but there are still a shit ton of people who absolutely terrified of the concept of sex as normal everyday thing.

To make a long story short:  Religious kookes told people sex was bad/dirty/for married people only.  They taught that to their child and so on and so forth.  Of course, there were free thinkers too, but the majority of people grew up being totally uncomfortable with the subject of sex.  SO, asshole who work in organizations like FTC pretty much banned the idea of having anything sexual in broadcast programming.

Oh well.  There are only so many ways to fuck someone.  But there are an infinite number of ways to kill them!

What the fuck does this have to do with the right to bare arms. All this has to do with is violence in the media.  And becides, everyone hates Bush and says he is running a theocratic dictatorship, shouln't they want guns to overthrow the bastard, not want him to take their guns away?  Just a thought.

I don't agree with it but I have come to accept the fact that I am not going to get lots of sex in my broadcast television.  It has to do with many things, and we aren't exactly lacking in groups trying to take violence out of television too.  The thing is that we can't do without both.  Almost all entertainment venues thoughout human history have contained Sex or Violence, and most have had a good mixure of both.  We have various groups that want to stop this.  It's just that the anti-sex people tend to be more outspoken and got their first, so we don't have as much sex.  That and we started television with something of the tail end of victorian moral system.  TV perhaps just found it difficult to move past that.  It's not like we don't have pleanty of sex on television anyways.  You are blind if you can't see sexual references on telivision all the time in the US.  true we have more violence than many other places however.  We don't have nudity on our telision, but that doesn't stop sex in shows any more than keeping guns off of tv keeps violence out.  If you took both sex and violence out of any places media, you would likely be as bored as hell, just be glad we aren't flooded with violent sex I guess.

It has a lot to do with the American government/media constantly bombarding us with the notion that sexuality is as bad thing. If sex was more open in America it would become less marketable and all the titillation we see in movies and television wouldn't be profitable any more. I've always felt this was one of the main reasons why the rest of the world thinks of us as being prude. In reality though, a majority Americans are as open about sexuality as people are everywhere else. I wish other part's of the world would stop making assumptions of all Americans based on the opinions the few loudmouthed morons :(

I blame Jesus.  No, not the guy who steals hubcaps from cars in the Ghetto.  The fictional Jesus.  And in all fairness, a lot of his followers are much worse that he was.

in America, there is the Republican Party that currently controls the House, Senate & occupy the Presidential office.  Republican party's core voting base consists of conservative Christians that frown upon open discussions of sex.  These conservative Christians believe in teaching abstinence and even forbid teaching condom use.  So the US is getting more and more conservative, not more liberal on the issue of sex.

It's because we fucking hate you, and we're doing it out of spite.

Now shut up and send us more tea and funny comedians, we're running short.

The reason is because american women are such fucking sluts they don't need encouragement. Seriously, you step into an american highschool and you can get laid for free within an hour, if you don't mind doing it in a restroom.
