Why do we look after Isreal so much?

We could literally get in a huge war because we want to protect this country but why is it so important to protect them? They are no where close to saints. Palestinians (sp?) have killed many Jews but seems like the Jews are killing them too. They aren't all innnocent. So why is it so important to protect them? Accoring to the hardcore christians they are going to hell anyway.

All 'Jews run the earth" conspiracy theories aside, we look after them because we had a large part in putting them there, and if we abandon them now that would be admiting we were wrong to put them there. 80% of everything America does in government and foreign policy is done just so that we don't have to admit we were wrong about the other 20% of what we did.
